DOC Band

My poor little baby boy is sporting some new gear...

Everything is fine he just has a mild case of Plagiocephaly. Basically his head was growing in the wrong direction. He will need to wear this DOC Band for this next 8-12 weeks until it corrects. He will have to wear it 23 hours a day and only take it off to take a bath and clean the interior of the band.

I'm going to be honest, it's hard for me to see him in this. It just makes me sad. I know I'll get over it soon and I've already made progress sice his first day in it, I just loved kissing and touching his soft head any time I wanted to.

So here's where you come in. I can decorate, paint, decal, vinyl and mod-podge his band. So what should I do?

  1. I can't help you with the decorations but I'll tell you that I love this little guy & think he is precious in his band. He still has his sweet smile going on. Love Nonnie

  2. I hope it passes quick, he does look adorable, like he's ready to ride a Vespa. Ha. About the decorating it, you can shoot for little airplanes or his favorite animal.

  3. yay for wrestler baby!! I'd think he was ready to wrestle if it weren't for those big googly eyes and sweet slobbery smile! I'm not picturing any decorations at the moment... you'll know when you hear or see the right thing.

  4. I want to eat him up. His smile melts my heart and he makes the band look good! It's actually smaller than I was thinking although I know it is tough for a mama. I am still thinking of ideas too, but for now I just see one sweet baby that I need to kiss soon!
    Love, Erni

  6. JEREMIAH 30:17. "But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds", declares the Lord. Maybe verse along lower border painted and decals to mark season, special days, etc. Either way he is adorable!

  9. This being the holidays, make a few hats out of lightweight fabric. He can be a reindeer with antlers, Santa hat, candy cane hat, and after the holidays, snowflakes. With some velcro, you should be able to cut the fabric to the shape of the helmet and change it out when you clean it if you don't want something that covers his entire head.

  10. That would be scary to see! I like Dakot'n's idea to make some cute hats for him to wear with it! He still looks absolutely adorable!

  12. This is something my son SHOULD have had...he always rolled over no matter how many times I turned his head when he was sleeping...he will forever be 'Linus' with a slightly lumpy head and one ear a little closer to the face (about 1/2 inch closer) than the other. I hope he never needs glasses! Your boy is too sweet! andrea@townandprairie

  13. He really looks cute in it, Robyn! It is always the parents who have to get over the shock of such things. The children don't care! Kellie was never upset about her bald head. Dylan isn't the least bit upset about his silver tooth. It is our vanity that wishes our kiddos could be "perfect." Dylan's little tooth will fall out someday and the goal is to have healthy permanent teeth underneath! Kellie's bald head resulted in her growing up! Remember the long-term goal. This is a temporary thing! Margaret

  15. Your little guy is adorable! My nephew had to wear a band and my sister found out that several of the car wrap companies will do bands for free. She got my nephews wrapped in guitars. Something you may think about.

  16. do something solid and put stickers on it so you can change for occasions for the holidays and daily use

  17. He looks adorable with or without the band, but I think the car wrap idea is great!

  18. My son wore a helment for torticollis. His came decorated with moons and stars in a night space design. He was done with his right before he started to walk and I remember thinking that I wish he could wear it a little longer since he was just starting to walk and bump his head.

  20. Paityn (one of our twins) had a Doc Band as well. She has had it off now for about 3 1/2 months. I promise you it will be the best decision you and your husband have ever made! Paityn had her Doc Band for almost 3 months. We were going every 10 days to Cranial Tech for adjustments. It was funny how she became attached to it and when we would take it off she would feel her head like "where is it??" LOL The time will go by very quickly although right now you feel like it taking forever. We are so happy we chose to get her band :)

  21. Hey,
Just started subscribing to your blog after seeing DIY hand soap - LOVE! My son had a DOC band, seems like forever ago as he is 7 now! The hardest part was for me - as a parent as I saw him as perfect - there was nothing wrong with his head. Fast forward, I am glad we did it - huge improvements. Althought I'll never know what would have been without the DOC band, seeing the measurement results afterward had a huge impact. He continues to be perfect to me.

  22. My friend's daughter has one and a sign company wrapped it for free. It's pink and has scripture on it and her name in the front!!

  23. My daughter has to wear a helmet too and I agree, the worst part is seeing them in it. She's now 9 years old and beautiful as can be.

  24. Our son gets his DOC in 2 weeks! At first I was worried more about rude people but I realized it is what's best for him. That is the only thing getting me through it. I know y'all are out of it now but if anyone else reads this the cranial technologies website has a section on decorating your DOC band.
