Dining Room Makeover

We aren't quite finished with the dining room but I just couldn't wait any longer to share it with you! We have one long shelf to install at the bottom and then it is done. We are both so in love with this new space and are reminded how filling a space with the things that speak to you can totally change the way the entire room feels. While I loved the plate collection that was there before it just didn't do the wall justice. Now we not only have a place to display some of our favorite finds we will also have room for a little school storage.

Barn House DIY

I'm blowing the dust off the old blog because I just have to share a fun diy I recently finished. You see we have had this doll house for several years and as cute as it was it just wasn't getting the use that it needed to justify the space it took up. So it sat in the garage until I could find someone who wanted it. It sat and sat. All the while each and every day the kids played barnyard animals for hours on end. I had a light bulb moment to turn that cute dollhouse into a barn!

I didn't take many pictures of the step by step process but in a nutshell I removed the door from the house and took it to Home Depot to get a piece of wood the same thickness cut to fit the size of the existing door. I then found thin trim pieces and cut them into the barnyard X. I found some cabinet hardware for the front hinges and a pull and put it all together! Because I was using a hand saw for the trim pieces it didn't match up perfectly, with a little putty and paint you would never know! On the inside I used mod podge and scrapbook paper sheets of dirt, straw hay and green grass for the different levels and barn siding scrapbook paper for the walls.

This was his big birthday surprise that was setup in his newly decorated room. He loved it all, but when I asked him what his favorite part was....he said, his cow knobs on his dresser. lol

Hallway Bathroom {Before and After}

 And two months later ............I bring you the hallway bathroom reveal! This is the kids bathroom and is located in the hallway right next to their bedrooms. This bathroom was full of tile, tile and more tile. We took it all out and replaced it with shiplap walls and subway tile for the shower/tub area. We replaced the vanity area with a farm table and double sinks with exposed pipes underneath. For some reason the true tone of the wood table looks orange/red in the pictures when it's more of a walnut stain. We used a white penny tile for the floors and that would be the only thing I would not use again. As much as I like the look it's very slippery.

Living Room {Before and After}

As many of you know we moved this summer and bought another fixer upper. I will be honest and tell you that this one has been so trying in so many ways. I won't get into all of the details but rest assured that the pretty after pictures you will see in the coming weeks did not go down like a happy and cute episode of hgtv Fixer Upper. It's been hard and I am so thankful to be on the other side of the story to now show you the place that we will call home. There are still many things that need to be finished but I want to go ahead and start documenting our progress and I can always show more pictures along the way.

In the living room we added a window to create more light and balance. I think it makes all the difference in the world! We also took out the carpet and added in wood flooring that matches the original wood floors throughout the rest of the house. The side you can't see in this shot will be saved for later because we are not finished with it but there was a wet bar that we took out and are still deciding what exactly to do with the space. We had planned to create a faux fireplace with space for a tv above but the budget didn't allow for it so we are going to need to get creative. In case anyone asks the paint is Revere Pewter at 25% and the trim is SW Pure White.

Junebug is {walking}

 Two Friday's ago {September 19th) our Junebug woke up completely determined to walk on her own. She had made up her mind that even when she fell she was just going to get right up and get back to it. All day long she did this. By Saturday morning she was mostly walking with very little falling and crawling. We were all so proud of her. The big kids kept cheering her on and holding her hand when needed.

This is the face of determination!

Our Home {tour}

This past year the Lord has been preparing my heart for something big and something new. All year I have been nervous and excited in anticipation of what that would mean for our family and this last week we found out. Matt got offered his first head coaching position and we couldn't be more excited about it. I am so thankful the Lord was so gracious to prepare this heart of mine to be at peace about the whole situation. We don't really have any of the housing details worked out other than our current home going on the market in the next few days. I sure am going to miss our first home and all the memories that we have made here. It will always be a special place to me. Here are a few before and after photos of our first fixer upper.

Hopefully I can add the other rooms later.
